Coastal Underwater Cave and Karst Environments

We have been studying the biodiversity and environments of cave and karst systems in Florida and around the world for the past decade.  This research includes field work, which often requires diving into underwater caves and sinks to collect samples and place instrumentation, but some may be done by surface collecting of samples. In the lab we carry out water chemistry measurements, stable isotopes analyses, and use DNA analyses and sequencing to learn how microbial communities change over time with varying geochemical and hydrological conditions.
